Geeta's Story

Geeta Goswami is a second year MA social work student, studying at Brunel University in Uxbridge. She joined Watford Mencap in October 2011 for an 8 month placement as part of the Advice and Advocacy team.

The Advice and Advocacy team provides a diverse range of services to people with a learning disability in South West Hertfordshire.

In her time with Watford Mencap, Geeta has used her skills to provide support ranging from completing a Disability Living Allowance Form to advocating for clients at tribunal/appeal hearings. Geeta has even helped a client research a family tree, and in doing so united the client with family members she had never met before. Geeta has been able to build good solid relationships with the individuals that use the services of Watford Mencap.

Geeta says "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Watford Mencap and have found it to be an amazing learning opportunity. More importantly I have been taught how to creatively work with Service Users when resources are strained."

Geeta has now finished her placement with Watford Mencap and we would like to thank her for all the hard work she has done over the last 8 months. She has become a valued member of staff and will be missed. We wish her all the best with her MA and her future career.
