Volunteering
If you are a 'people-person', like meeting new friends, helping and caring for others less able then you are our kind of person!
There are different ways you can volunteer and support Watford Mencap and we guarantee you will make new friends and learn new skills. If you feel you can't regularly commit to something, but would still like to show your support, we are always looking for volunteers to help at various fundraising events, to help run the raffle, or to collect money. For more information, contact Rosie on 01923 713620.
We are currently looking for volunteers at our new Head Office at The Old Town Hall, 105 High Street, Rickmansworth, Herts, WD3 1AN so if you want to build your administrative skills in a lively friendly office and give something back to your community come along on:
Wednesday 3 February between 11.00am and 1.00pm
for a cup of tea and a biscuit and let us know! There are various opportunities available. We look forward to seeing you.
We have a variety of other volunteering opportunities with
Watford Mencap:
Mencap Charity Shop (Bushey)
36 High St, Bushey, Herts
Manager: Jean Darke - 0208 421 8388
The shop is a very important source of revenue for our charity and we rely on a friendly and dedicated team of volunteers to keep the shop running. They sort donations of clothing, bric-a-brac, toys and books and help with shop duties. You only need commit to one morning or afternoon a week or fortnight.
If you are interested, call in at the shop and collect an application form. While you are there, Jean the manager will be happy to tell you more. Alternatively call the Rickmansworth office on 01923 713620.
Mencap Charity Shop (Watford)
250 St Albans Rd, Watford, Herts
Manager: Sonia Glover - 01923 210623
Our training shop opened in March 2003. The shop sells donated goods to raise money for Watford Mencap. Additionally the shop gives trainees with learning disabilities the chance to learn retail skills. Volunteers who work alongside them will help prepare goods for sale, serve customers and stack the shelves.
One of the volunteers at the Watford Shop, Amanda Cerasale writes: "It is very rewarding volunteering at Watford Mencap. I have been with Watford Mencap since September 2005 and I have loved every bit of it. I still love volunteering at the shop because most of my friends volunteer there - it really gives me a buzz.'
'I like to attend all the meetings as much as I can because I think it is vital that we can all keep in close contact with one another in on what is going on at Watford Mencap.'
'Through loyalty and hard work we have brought Watford Mencap back in to the community.'
If you can give some time, either drop into the shop for an informal chat with Sonia or contact her on 01923 210623 for an application form. You can also contact the Rickmansworth office.
As you will be working with vulnerable adults, a Police Check
through the Criminal Records Bureau will be carried out.
