Advisor - Advice and Information

Are you a good listener? Can you guide people when they need support?

Join our Advice & Information team so that you can make a positive difference to the lives of people with a learning disability

Advisor, Rickmansworth WD3.

£8,610 per annum – 18 hour per week (equivalent to £9.20 per hour plus benefits)

You will be providing information and advice to people with learning disabilities and their carers on a range of issues including housing, social care, education and welfare benefits. Your service will involve meeting clients face to face and providing information on the telephone.  You will conduct initial client interviews to gain an understanding of their support needs and then plan how you will provide that support.

You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable you to build a rapport with your clients and be able to obtain from them what support they need, where their communication may be limited. You will take detailed notes from which to work from when filling in benefits forms or when liaising with other professional agencies required as part of their support. This can involve making referrals to other agencies. You will assist the Service Manager to maintain standards set by the Advice Quality Mark and Hertfordshire County Council (HCC). The service meets the standard for the Advice Quality Mark.

You will offer support in a creative way that respects choice, dignity and privacy. You have experience of supporting children and adults with a learning disability and you have knowledge of the needs and rights of people with a learning disability, experience of working within a team and working with carers. You will have an inclusive and progressive approach and you will involve the people you support to live the life they choose by listening to them and planning with them and advocating for them.

You’ll need a flexible “can do” attitude, good IT skills, an eye for detail, emotional resilience and the ability to juggle a broad and diverse workload. In return you will find this an extremely rewarding role where you will be making a real difference to peoples’ lives on a daily basis. You will be based in our Head office in Rickmansworth but will need to travel within the South West Hertfordshire area.

Most importantly you will enjoy the challenge of juggling many activities to ensure that the advice service provides people with excellent person centred support. This role is for 18 hours per week and can involve lone-working in our office as well as in the community. The working pattern is predominantly Monday to Friday but could require an occasional evening or weekend. As an Adviser you will receive support and leadership from the Service Manager, and you will be able to share knowledge and learning with your colleagues in the team.
