Children’s Support Worker

Children and Young People Support Worker

£8.70 per hour + benefits

Join our team and you will be planning and delivering a variety of stimulating activities and experiences for children and young people aged 0-25 with learning disabilities. You will be leading play and leisure sessions to maximise the young people's participation, and providing person-centred support. The sessions include After School Club, Saturday Club, Youth Club and Holiday Play Schemes and several more. The young people we look after have all different conditions and abilities, ranging from autism to Cerebral Palsy.

As a support worker you will be facilitating increased independence by encouraging and supporting participation in daily living activities, decision making and choice. You will provide high-quality support and appropriate social interaction to meet the varying needs of children and young people. You will also provide a link for parents so excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are key.

You will be a positive team player who can form and maintain effective working relationships. You are able to work using your own initiative, plan and prioritise workload, and contribute ideas to support the service delivery. You have knowledge of the needs of people with a learning disability and challenge discrimination; you are inclusive with an understanding of the importance of choice, control and rights. Ideally you have knowledge and experience of working with children and young people.

Watford Mencap offers a comprehensive training and induction program including child protection, communication and health and safety. We are committed to offering opportunities to develop skills and abilities. We are progressive, as shown by winning the HCPA Most Innovative Care Team Award, and we value our people, recognised by our Investors in People accreditation. Come and join our team!

If you are looking for a change of career, wanting to get experience whilst at school or before starting university or looking to further progress your career in the third sector, we look forward to hearing from you!
