Summer Playworkers

Summer Playworkers

£7.77 - £10.42 per hour (dependant on age)

Are you looking for a summer job that’s out of the ordinary?

Work during the school holidays in a fun and energetic team supporting young people with learning disabilities. Join our team of playscheme workers and you will be delivering a variety of stimulating activities and experiences for the children and young people using our services. You will be assisting support workers during play and leisure sessions to maximise the children’s participation and providing person-centred support whilst having the chance to plan and carry out your own sessions!

As a Playworker you will be facilitating increased independence by encouraging and supporting participation in daily living activities, decision making and choice. You will provide high-quality support and appropriate social interaction to meet the varying needs of children and young people. As well as making the children feel welcome, you will also provide a link for parents so excellent communication skills are key.

You are a positive team player who can form and maintain effective working relationships. You are able to work using your own initiative, plan and prioritise workload, and contribute ideas to support the service delivery. Ideally, you have knowledge and experience of working with children and young people, particularly with additional needs.

Watford Mencap offers a comprehensive training and induction program including child protection, communication and health and safety. We are committed to offering opportunities to develop skills and abilities.

You will need to be able to complete the on-line training before 20th July 2023 and to committ to work at least 3 weeks between 25th July and 25th August 2023. You will be working 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. In addition to working during the summer holidays you will have the opportunity to continue working on a casual basis either in the after-school club or at the weekend and other school holiday playschemes so it’s ideal to work around school, college or university.

We are a progressive charity to work for and we value our people. Come and join our team!

If you think this sounds like the job for you please ring Helen on 07384 831280 for an informal chat.

We accept CVs and we will invite candidates to attend our Children’s Centre to participate in an interactive session with our clients to find out more about the role. Following this, successful candidates will be invited to a face to face interview.

An enhanced DBS will be required for the successful candidate.
