New Learning and Leisure Group gets Creative

Watford Mencap’s new Learning and Leisure group, which is for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities, provides an opportunity for people with PMLD to socialise and take part in activities tailored to their interests.

On Friday the group were visited by volunteer and expert baker, Rachel Bird, who bought all the ingredients needed to decorate cupcakes. Under a cloud of icing sugar members used hand blenders to make butter icing of their chosen flavour. They had great fun squeezing the icing out of the piping bags and choosing the extra toppings such as marshmallows and jelly beans. Members then took the decorated cupcakes home to share with family and friends.

The activities usually take place in Watford Mencap’s head office in Rickmansworth or using facilities in the local area for example, Rickmansworth Aquadrome. Members attend the sessions with 1-1 support and meet fortnightly during the day. For more details about joining the group please contact Layla Rynn, Learning and Leisure Co-ordinator, on 07766801351 or email lrynn@watfordmencap.org.uk.
