Watford FC Intern runs New York Half Marathon in aid of the Children’s Centre

On the 20th March, student Mark Compton will be running the New York Half Marathon in aid of Watford Mencap Children’s Centre.  He is taking on the challenge with his Mum, Michaela Scott and his sister Becky Compton. The Race, which goes through Central Park and Time Square, is now in its 6th year and is 21.5km long

Mark, who studies Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Bath, is currently a Sports Science Intern at Watford Football Club and has to work closely with many off the Watford Players on a daily basis. The players have been extremely supportive and have set Mark a target to run the race in 1hour and 42minutes.

Mark explained ‘Having a learning disability is hard for people, but having a place where people feel comfortable and can be happy is all you can really ask for in my opinion. The players at Watford Football Club have been fantastic and really supportive, right from the very top down to my fellow interns.’

Mark is not shy of taking up a challenge and in June 2010 Mark and his mum celebrated his 21st birthday by climbing up Mount Kilimanjaro, in north-eastern Tanzania.

Watford Mencap would like to wish them the best of luck and if you would like to support Mark and his family, please go to www.justgiving.com/Mark-Compton
