Community Support organise strawberry cream tea for Learning Disability Week

One of the events Watford Mencap put on as a part of Learning Disability Week was their Strawberry Cream Tea organised by the community support team, which took place in Cheslyn Gardens. The event was a great success with over one hundred people attending: all of whom were from different age groups and backgrounds, and associated with Mencap in different ways.

Janet Scholes was delighted to join the party alongside her community support worker, Lesley Blee, and said that she had ‘a marvellous time!’; in particular enjoying the cream tea and the opportunity to meet and talk to new people. Janet lives in a shared house with 6 other people, in Delrow Community in Aldenham. The community is one of many formed by the Camp Hill Village Trust, and is designed to offer support to those with a learning disability. With the help of a support worker, Janet is able to enjoy activities she may not otherwise have a chance to. Every Tuesday afternoon, Lesley visits Janet to go shopping, or to go out for tea, or to do a jigsaw (which Janet particularly enjoys). Janet says, ‘My support worker is lovely. I am very lucky to have her’.
