Watford Mencap AGM

Watford Mencap staff and members enjoyed an evening of jazz and dancing following the AGM at The Watersmeet in Rickmansworth on Friday 19th October.

Sponsored by VocaLink, the international payments company based in Rickmansworth, the event was attended by nearly 150 people including Kemal Butt, Chairman of Three Rivers District Council. VocaLink’s Customer Readiness Manager, Carolyn Murphy, attending her first Watford Mencap AGM, commented: ‘It was a very enjoyable and informative first meeting for me. It could be seen by the enthusiastic entertainment that everybody was having a good time.’

Don Eungblut, Chair of Trustees at Watford Mencap, conducted the formal business with overwhelming support from the members. Watford Mencap Director, Jane Pattinson, highlighted awards and accolades Watford Mencap had received from the Care Quality Commission, Advice Quality Standard and Investors in People, and the charity’s short-listing for Best Care Business over 50 employees by Herts Care Providers Association. She thanked staff and volunteers over all the Watford Mencap projects for their hard work, as well as the AGM’s photographers SKM Studios, VocaLink as sponsors and BSV Jazz Band.

Act One Dance Base performed a dance for people with disabilities at the end of official business.  There was lots of cheering and clapping from the crowd who joined in with the Conga.  Some then took part in a dance workshop.

BSV Community Jazz Band did a superb job in getting everyone up dancing by playing good old classics such as Blue Moon and Stormy Weather. Robert Taylor, band leader, said, ‘It was a pleasure to play to such an enthusiastic crowd’.
