Watford Mencap raises over £900 at 11th Annual Ricky Pancake Race

On Tuesday 21st February a large, vocal crowd turned out to see Three Rivers DC Chairman Cllr Chris Whately-Smith, accompanied by his wife Caroline, officially start the race. Estate agents Gibbs Gillespie, who won the 2011 race, slipped to 3rd place, beaten by “Flipping Good” from Cox Costello & Horne and the Sales Team from Sewell & Gardner who were this year’s winners! Over £900 for charity funds was raised, with bystanders contributing to buckets shaken and runners from Gibbs Gillespie and LoCO2 Energy Ltd raising money.

Others teams involved in the race were John Lewis Watford, Baker Tilly, Day Smith and Hunter as well as two from LoCO2 Energy Ltd. and one more each from Cox Costello & Horne and Sewell & Gardner.

“The Mencap Pancakes” - a team of young people with learning disabilities representing Watford Mencap – also took part and ran extremely well, just missing out on a spot in the final to a strong Baker Tilly team.

Sponsor Dick Morgan of the Coach and Horses, who also entered a team, was an excellent host, providing the runners with pancakes, pans, prizes and a wonderful spread of food after the event for everyone who took part.
