The Watford 10K

The Children at Watford Mencap Children’s Centre were delighted to help with the launch of this year’s Watford 10k Charity Run which is in its 17th year.

On the first May Bank holiday of 2014 (5th May) the ever popular charity run returns to its favourite setting amongst the bluebells of Whippendale Woods, starting in Cassiobury Park, Watford.

With over 1500 participants last year, Watford Round Table and Watford Mencap, the two charities who organise the event, will be looking to attract more runners this year.  It is open to all abilities, from experienced athletes to those new to running.

Ruth Horwitz, Community Affairs Manager at Camelot UK says, “We have sponsored the Watford 10k for several years now and each year just gets better and better. We are dedicated to supporting our local communities and the Watford 10K is a really worthwhile event that brings people from all walks of life together to get behind this brilliant cause as well as get fit and healthy.”

In addition to the main 10k race, there is a timed 3k race for younger athletes as well as a 1k children’s run which are sponsored by Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

Dan Dark, SVP and Managing Director, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, commented: “The Fun Run is a fantastic way of getting young people involved in fundraising for Watford Mencap.  It’s a great community event and I’m really pleased to be supporting it again this year.”

Every child who raises over £25 will be entered into a draw to win a family ticket for Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter

Dorothy Thornhill Mayor of Watford attended the launch event and said "Watford Mencap provides vital services for local people.  With more money they could do many more fantastic things.  Do join in or at the very least sponsor someone who is."
