Watford Mencap Has Moved

On the weekend of October 31/November 1 Watford Mencap moved to a new building in Rickmansworth High Street. The building is called ‘The Old Town Hall’ and can be found down a short alley between HoB the Hairdressers and ‘Prime Outlet’, near the corner with Church Street and opposite Iceland.

Rents are cheaper at the moment, which has allowed us to obtain premises where we can improve our services for local people with a learning disability. Based on what we find now we have moved in, we will ask builders to make the building DDA compliant.

We want to turn our new building into a multi-purpose community venue for people with a learning disability and other local groups, increasing Watford Mencap’s presence on the High Street. We shall be seeking funding to put in a ‘Changing Places’ toilet so that everyone can use the building. Please bear with us during the building phase.

We plan to share our offices with national Mencap’s ‘Raising Your Game’ project, which will develop participation in decision-making by young people with a learning disability. The project will be recruiting 2 new staff, one with a learning disability, so do keep a lookout for the job adverts.

We hope to be able to show you the new facility in the next six months and would welcome any sources of funding and sponsorship. We shall need the support of many different people to make it happen, and we hope that you will want to be part of this exciting venture to bring new opportunities to people with a learning disability.
