OFF THE WALL: Art Exhibition and sale in aid of Watford Mencap

6th - 28th April 2011, Pavilion Gallery, Chenies Manor House, Chenies, WD3 6ER, open Wed & Thu 2-5pm & Easter Monday 25th April 2-5pm

Founded in 1951, Watford Mencap is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee this year, and 60 years of helping adults and children with learning disabilities, as well as their parents and carers, should not pass without notice.  A variety of events are set to mark the occasion, including ‘Off the Wall’, an art exhibition and sale of artwork by 25 local professional artists. Set in the Pavilion Gallery in the beautiful gardens of Chenies Manor, the timing of the exhibition couldn’t be better, coinciding with Chenies Manor’s opening for the spring season and giving the opportunity to take in their renowned annual display of tulips.

The exhibition features jewellery, ceramics, fused glass, paintings, prints and sculpture. It can be viewed on Chenies Manor opening days on Wednesdays and Thursdays every week in April, as well as Easter Monday, when they hold their annual Easter Egg Festival.

‘Off the Wall’ is sponsored by VocaLink, an international payments provider with offices in Rickmansworth. VocaLink have an ongoing partnership with Watford Mencap  and have recently signed a partnership agreement to show their commitment to supporting the charity for a further two years. In December 2010 VocaLink held an auction of paintings by the children of Watford Mencap Children’s Centre, raising £3500 for the charity.

Marion King, Chief Executive Officer at VocaLink said: ‘We have worked with Watford Mencap for a number of years as part of our CSR communities programme which looks to support and inspire young people.  The exhibition is one of many fantastic activities that Watford Mencap run and we are delighted to sponsor this event as part of our new partnership agreement.’

Like many charitable organisations, Watford Mencap has suffered cuts in funding, particularly in its ‘Leisure Together’ scheme, which helps to provide an active social life and fitness activities for members, and proceeds from the exhibition will be targeted at this area of Watford Mencap’s work specifically. By purchasing an original piece from ‘Off the Wall’ you can be sure of making a difference to the quality of life of local people.
