What's on?

Please be aware that the Café in the Library will be closed from 31st August - 14th September, due to essential maintenance works taking place in the library. While the café is closed, the people we support who usually work in the café will still be keeping busy! Some will be heading out to visit other local cafés, with a treasure hunt planned along the way, while those who usually work in the kitchen will continue with their kitchen activities. We’ll share further updates and plans once we have more information. Thank you for your understanding.

On 7th August, we held a Family Garden Party for the parents and siblings of some of the children we support. Ten families attended, bringing their own picnic lunches and enjoying a range of garden games, face painting and entertainment from a magician. The event was made possible thanks to a £400 grant from the Herts County Council Summer Connections Fund. We hope to be able to put on a similar event again next year. It was lovely to see our families enjoying our garden space in such a relaxed and welcoming environment. The event also provided a wonderful opportunity for parents and staff to meet, chat and spend time together.

Our residents at Thorpedale have been enjoying the rewards of growing their own vegetables, with this season's purple peppers proving to be a particular highlight. Gardening provides opportunities to develop new skills, promote wellbeing, and encourage independence, while giving residents the satisfaction of nurturing plants from seed to harvest.
