Watford Mencap Launches First-Ever Inclusive Sustainable Fashion Show

Watford Mencap is proud to announce its first-ever Inclusive Sustainable Fashion Show, taking place on Saturday 11th July 2026 from 6pm to 9pm at the Sacred Heart of Jesus and St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church Hall, Bushey.

Held as part of Helping Herts Week and Bushey Festival, the event will celebrate inclusion, confidence and sustainability, while showcasing the incredible community that makes Watford Mencap so special.

The fashion show will feature a unique catwalk experience with models made up of Watford Mencap clients, staff members and supporters, all modelling outfits sourced from Watford Mencap’s charity shop on Bushey High Street. The event aims to highlight both the value of sustainable fashion and the talents, personalities and achievements of people with learning disabilities.

Visitors can expect an evening filled with fashion, community spirit and entertainment, alongside a bar, stalls and raffle.

The event forms part of Watford Mencap’s ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for people with learning disabilities to build confidence, develop skills and be seen, heard and celebrated within their local community.

Jolene Stephens, Fundraiser at Watford Mencap, said:

“We are delighted to be hosting our very first Inclusive Sustainable Fashion Show. This event is about much more than fashion. It’s about celebrating individuality, promoting inclusion and showing the incredible confidence, talent and style of the people we support. By using donations we receive in our Bushey High Street charity shop, models will showcase items available to buy. We hope the community will come along, enjoy a fantastic evening and support a great cause.”

Funds raised through the event will help Watford Mencap continue providing vital services and opportunities for local people with learning disabilities and their families.  Including after school clubs, life skills projects and new garden resources.

Watford Mencap is celebrating the amazing efforts of Jocelyn, a Year 3 pupil at St Helen’s School in Northwood, who has raised £609.72 for the charity by selling scrunchies to her peers. Demonstrating creativity, compassion, and determination well beyond her years, Jocelyn took the initiative to sell scrunchies to friends and classmates, with all proceeds generously donated to Watford Mencap. Her thoughtful project not only raised valuable funds but also helped raise awareness of the work we do in supporting people with learning disabilities and their families. “We are incredibly grateful to Jocelyn for her hard work and dedication,” said Michelle, Fundraising Manager for Watford Mencap. “Young fundraisers like her inspire us and remind us of the power of community. The money raised will go directly toward providing vital services that make a real difference in the lives of those we support.” Watford Mencap provides essential services across Southwest Hertfordshire, including residential care, community support, advice, and inclusive activities for children and adults with learning disabilities.
